Technique: Cooking
This recipe is a life saver! Put it together on Christmas Eve and pop it in the oven when the kids first come stomping in to wake you up. By the time the kids tear through their pressies your breakfast will be done.
Materials:
16 slices white bread, cursts removed
8-12 slices Canadian bacon or ham
grated cheddar cheese
6 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 cup minced onion
1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper
1/2 cup finely chopped red pepper
1-2 tsp worcestershire sauce
3 cups whole milk
dash tabasco
1/4 lb butter
Tools:
oven
9" x 13" glass baking dish
mixing bowls
whisk
In a 9" x 13" buttered glass baking dish, cover the bottom with 8 slices of white bread. Cover bread slices with bacon, then cheese then cover with the remaining bread to form a 'sandwich'. In a bowl beat eggs, salt and pepper. To the egg mixture, add the dry mustard, onion, peppers, worcestershire sauce, milk and tabasco. Pour mixture over the sandwiches. Cover and let stand in refrigerator over night. In the morning pop in the oven and bake, uncovered, at 350F for one hour.
